Gulp! Fish eat it up!

Let me tell you something.. Sunday was the most astouding and uplifting day I’ve had in a very long time. Im finally getting over this chest congestion, and I needed to go outside and get my heart pumping. I normally spend Saturday and Sunday morning watching fishing shows, if I can’t actually be out fishing. So when the day turned out to be looking nice despite the previous nights rain. Called up Clive and we headed down to Humber River and Humber Bay. When we arrived there were like 3 groups of people carp fishing, which wasn’t surprising because we could see a bunch of them jumping. We weren’t planning on catching carp, especially since our equipment is rather light, I was using 6lb test monofilament.

There were like 2 or 3 huge carp craddled in this little shallow area, so I threw on a float and Yellow Gulp! grub Minnow. First cast, as Im bouncing the lure off the bottom, I get a huge hit and think I’ve got him hooked, but he gets away. Second cast, same action, BAM! I’m still worried about the fish spitting out my bait so I have my hand over the line for extra tension as I pull back. Then this monster peels out about 50 yards of line in a few seconds. Now it’s a delicate tug of war as I attempt to land this fish with out breaking my line. Twenty minutes later, I’ve got it close enough that we can see that its actually too large to bring out of the water by hand. Clive ran down the bank and borrowed a net from some other guys carp fishing. Who were unimpressed and pissed off that I caught one so fast. We finally get it on land and its huge, about 30 pounds.

You don’t have to believe me, but you will have to believe the video.

Reverse engineering is messy

Wow, I hadn’t realized it had been so long since I updated or how hard it would be to top an entry about brothels. If all fishing excursions end up this way the summer is sure to be dangerously mind-blowing.

I’ve been working on a pretty sweet side project the past week. Im trying to decypher the serial protocols for a cool, and rather large, device called the iBall. This kind of reverse engineering is done by sniffing the communications between software and the device. There are massive ammounts of print outs, printing pages of hex codes and different size integers. In the end its more of a math and pattern matching problem, and since Im good at and enjoy such things its been a lot of fun. I think that I know enough about the protocol now that I should be able to write my own software to send the same codes, and then use my software to test portions of the communcation I don’t fully understand yet. Im a nerd, and I can appreciate it.

My parents are coming up some time in June and hopefully bringing some important items of mine I couldn’t bring. I dont know what they’re going to want to do for an entire weekend, maybe I can buy them tickets to a comedy show or something. My mothers very excited to see the baby.

Im seriously considering selling my PlayStation2 so Clive and I have a canoe for the summer. Yea, that’s right a canoe! Are you looking for a PlayStation2? Got a canoe? If not get out of my way!

Re: Monday Movie Screenings

I agree, however this movie was much more light-hearted and had a good mix of humor. I don't think there was room for humor in War Dance.

My favourite was WarDance. I couldn't agree more with you-- movies that have to be paid for aren't typically very good.
