Yesterday was quite possibly the most fucked up day I’ve had in Mexico thus far.

The good news is that my growing list of things I wanted to do in Mexico has gotten one item shorter.

On my way home from work I pulled up behind a cop on a motorcycle, my car has one headlight out and I have to keep rev’ing the engine to keep it from stalling at stops. Sure enough he looks back at me, puts on his turn signal as if hes going to turn and pulls me over when I pass him.

He comes up to the side of my car and tells me that my light is out and he has to give me a ticket, I appologize and say that it just died tonight. He asks for my license and registration, I give him the registration and then accidently hand him my credit card instead of my license. Now he’s really not impressed with me and I keep appologizing. I give him my drives license and he tells me that because Im American hes going to keep my ID to make sure I pay my ticket. Given that Im leaving in a few days this was a huge hassle and I just kept telling him that I wanted to pay the ticket right now.

He seemed a bit confused that I was so aggressive about wanting to pay right now, knowing that I was obviously saying that Id bribe him. He kept asking me if it was a problem to pay him and I just kept saying “no, I want to pay now”. Sure enough he gives my back my ID, goes back to his motorcycle and fumbles around with some papers. Comes back and tells me that its going to cost me 200 pesos, about 20 USD. While thats an outrageous price, the ticket would have probably cost me like 10 USD, I didn’t really care.

So now I’ve paid him and he seems to be happy though he keeps looking around to see if anyone is watching. Then he asks me something in Spanish that I don’t quite understand and I tell him how poor my Spanish is. He thinks for a moment and says “Why you VROOM VROOM at stop?” Since I have no idea how to explain that my car idles so low it would die I just reply;

Ella gusta la gasolina!

He laughs, tells me that I better get my light fixed tomorrow and speeds off on his bike.

“Bribe a police officer” - CHECK!

In related news, from the same night, my car must be upset that Im going to sell it. Because it died on my at 2am about 4 miles or so from my house.

Re: Monday Movie Screenings

I agree, however this movie was much more light-hearted and had a good mix of humor. I don't think there was room for humor in War Dance.

My favourite was WarDance. I couldn't agree more with you-- movies that have to be paid for aren't typically very good.
